I have been told not to listen to music, so I never have. Noise is usually a distraction for me, some of the time.

Rep Power: 163 | | | For traning, anything with a good rhythm.
For meditational purposes I stick by my suggestions above...
Tuu- "1000 Years" and "All Our Ancestors"
Robert Rich/Alio Die- "Fissures"
Robert Rich also has a lot of neat other stuff.
No words, just tones and simple ethnic rhythms.
Definitely worth checking out if you are into that stuff....
Peace-
Cam

Rep Power: 157 | | Robert Fripp's latest, the succintly titled "At the end of time: Churchscapes in England and Estonia 2006" Is good if you play music while meditating.
A few years ago we wandered round the public church of a trappist monastry in Slovenia. A good place in its own right with an interesting history (it's a long time since protecting the opressed was a boring job in Yugoslavia). The monks were chanting next door and the sound filtered up into the empty church through the crypts... It was an atmosphere and sound people spend a fortune on "ambient" sounds to recreate.
Fripp, with only his limited instruments and his whole soundscape thing actually manages to do it. MySpace.com - Robert Fripp - - Ambient / Electronica / Experimental - www.myspace.com/officialrobertfrippsite

Rep Power: 45 | | | For meditation I like soft soothing Chinese instrumentals like you would do tai chi to. I have a CD called Tai Chi for Meditation that is great. All the music contain no words. For working out I like to listen to either Metallica, AC/DC, or the classic Rocky soundtrack.

Rep Power: 3 | | | and,...here is a music training strategy! ( I use Chinese traditional music),..use the musical phrases in tempo to represent the 'movement' of your imagined opponent. Most people think that a tai-ji demo' performed to music is just a 'dance-routine' ,...but, the real idea behind it is useing the music as your opponent.
So, when the tempo or the music-phrasing changes, change your tempo/movement consistency/or technique with it. Now, to the lay' person it probably won't 'look' much different,...but, 'YOU' will feel the difference because of your mental-intention ,(YI), behind the music connection! Coach Li |
