What Wah Lum school did you go to? Who was your teacher there? Are we cousins?

Rep Power: 17 | | | People can fly? I've heard of Qing Gong - Lightness Gong Fu which can make the practitioner leap higher and run faster, but I have never seen anybody fly - except in cartoons or movies. What's the deal Zi Zheng? |

Nope you were asked who did you study Wah Lum under. That was left unanswered.

Rep Power: 0 | | | My bad... Didn't realize you were asking about my Wah Lum Sifu. Blonde moment.
I was under Bruce Cohen from 1997 - 2004 with additional training from Master Chan in iron palm, iron claw, and fighting applications, as well as a lot of badgering from Mimi. I used to go through spurts of spending a lot of time at the temple. Bruce was... excused... from the system at the same time I was getting ready/preparing for my Sifu test and this left me in a dilemma. Is my loyalty to the system or to my Sifu? I couldn't choose... so, I did what a Daoist does best... walked the middle path and left both. I spoke to both about my leaving. I was actually living in Bruce's school at the time and teaching all the classes. I Sold my music equipment and went to Wudang. I always liked Taiji as it made more sense to me. Always been fascinated with Wudang, it's esoteric practices and of course... sword. My first two weeks there I spent a lot of time with Yuan Shifu and I wound up becoming his first disciple. There's a lot more to it than that... I'm just giving a little back story here. Before Wah Lum I studied Wing Chun and Hung Ga and before that I was in various Japanese arts. Also did a lot of full contact hand and weapons fighting at Bruce's. So, there's the short version of my 23 years in MA. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | yeah... about the flying. my teacher doesn't fly. but, I don't know if he was messing with me or not, but he said that one of the old monks in the temple can fly. he doesn't eat meat or grains and has a select diet. Supposedly, the power to fly comes from the 7 stars. I don't know how he was meaning to fly as in levitation, or just being uber, uber light, but his master said he saw him fly... like a bird. Our comprehension from "normal"/social conditioning tells us that this is impossible, but, I don't know. I don't discredit anything in this world, not even flying. Would just be ignorant. The old monk does a type of qi gong that has shrunk his... broadsword? and he has never had sex. Who knows. I can't... Bob Rosen can't. Pretty much everyone I know can't. Maybe Chan Pui can. He can walk across light bulbs. And he was not formally, but through talking, teaching me light body (qing gong). I can stand on a wine glass and do a "Tam Tui" on it about 60% of the time. The one time I went to do it on camera, my wife was filming and I felt the glass about to break so i came up just shy of going all the way down and the glass broke. If you go to my youtube/usawudang i have a video of a guy doing qing gong practices. I don't know what style he is but those practices are identical to one of my brothers practices. He is a disciple to Gu Shifu (Wan Lei Shan's last disciple) in Zi Ran Men. |

Rep Power: 149 | | | OK, thanks. Yeah, I know there was a bit of a dilemma for some folks with Sifu Cohen leaving the system and a sifu test coming up, so I can understand the choice.
The tam tui on the wine glass thing, you know, I've heard 1 guy brag about how he could do it standing on a styrofoam cup. I know I couldn't do either without smashing them. I think at the very least it would be a great party game, given enough alcohol.

Rep Power: 0 | | | the infamous cup photo. There is a picture of Master Chan standing on a Styrofoam cup. Bruce also said that at one of the Sifu tests they were in a location of some sorts where there were music stands. He said master Chan pulled off the top piece that holds the sheet music so that only that thin center pole of the stand was there. Master Chan jumped up on it and was moving around throwing kicks and such. I have seen the photo of Tommy Turcotte on a wine glass. He was one of Master Chan's disciples supposedly. I don't want to go around gossiping. just saying what I have found and was told. But, that's what got me to doing it. |

Rep Power: 100 | | | That is a balance thing. You cannot get "lighter", you can minimize the shear you generate, so you don't break a glass with shear. I can run through wet hallways, and when slipping, I slip in place, pirouetting on my backfoot, keeping totally upright. Looks funny. I had two moving modes, one would lead to thudding sounds so you can hear me through the building, the other to complete silence so you can't even hear me coming into the room.
Light body is two things. One, balance. You can balance on ropes, edges, pins, twigs, everything. That also has to do with body organizing, with the body organizing itself in a way to minimize momentums and react to forces putting out of balance, or out of place. The other is power, the ability to use jin on jumping.
Someone insisting on flying is either hoaxing, or fooled into thinking it works.

Rep Power: 0 | | | Agreed Nik. Although i try to remain completely objective at all times and not dismiss anything, I do not believe qing gong is about actual flying. Theoretically... If a human being were able to manipulate the electro magnetic waves/frequency found in the atmosphere they would be able to glide/hover like a bird hovering on thermals. Once, again... theoretically. I'm sure there's more to it... but i remain open minded to any possibility that could exist. Key word... could.
BUT... I can't say I disagree with you, but there is one thing that was not mentioned in detail. True... you don't make yourself lighter, but you transfer your energy through whatever it is is supporting you. So in a sense you're not actually lighter, but you connecting to the ground using whatever is holding your weight as a medium to transfer your energy and weight through.
I have to get going, but I'm sure there will be more on this, so i'll clarify later if it icomes up... | |
