Rep Power: 36 | | yeah my point was the way you can use music to express yourself quite directly to someone in spite of differences which would otherwise be more difficult to overcome
and people can join together, feel the flow (tm) and really participate.. that's just some of the cool points of music

Rep Power: 24 | | | Why have music? A fair question, and the question is even further reaching than first it seems. Music is tied very closely to art, and is considered one of the fine arts along with literature and visual art. Why have any of them? Why do we listen to music, view art, or read fiction? For the pleasure thereof. Would it be wrong to deny ourselves the pleasure we feel when enjoying the arts? Would it be wrong to deny ourselves pleasure period? You make jokes about making love to music, but is it really so strange that we do this? The kama sutra recommends not only using music but also visual stimulus while making love. Pleasure is central to being human, and so to deny ourselves the pleasures of music, art, literature, and love is to deny that which makes us human.

Rep Power: 48 | | | Music makes use of natural rhythmns and flows. Structured sound. Drumming fingers on a cafe table. If there were no composers, there would still be music.
If you don't like certain kinds, or are disenchanted with the excess and/or mediocrity, which is perceived as noise, that is no reason to dump it altogether, imo.
When I listen to birds and to wind in trees and the ocean, street traffic, that is music to me as well. Different. One man's racket is another's music.
But to get back to my first sentence. Music is used in story telling and helps to pass down history. It provides a structure in which memories and feelings are kept and communicated, with and without words.
