Rep Power: 168 | | | I'm wondering if it just has grain alcohol added to it or if it's done like a lot of fortified wines like sherry or the ones that are really sweet.... See if you can find name brands and details!!!!!
Do they have absinthe in China?!?!?!

Heaven is a space outside of time and the physical world (all things created) where the presence of the uncreated light of the trinity permeates all things. If you have loved this light and desired to be close to it during life, there is nothing on earth that can compare to being bathed in it's glory. However, if you have spent your life shunning and hiding from it, there is nothing on earth that can compare to being bathed in it's glory. So heaven and hell are not so much 'places' as they are states of the soul. If you are attached to the physical pleasures, when you no longer have a body the desires become your hell. |

You really should begin statements like that with "According to my personal faith and to popular mythology...."
It lessens the burden of trying to define something that really has no verification or substantiation of its actual existence.
Which is kind of funny this thread was brought back up....
I am at home with family for the Holidays and me and my dad were talking earlier and got into the discussion on religion and the topic of heaven came up....
He was making the point that he had never encountered anything/person/place whatever that he would want to endure for eternity..... He said, "So what if God said to me I could spend 24 hours a day on the golf course and I would never miss a putt....... How long is that gonna be any fun?"
I just had to laugh.....

That was the teaching of the Eastern Orthodox Church actually.
I had no intention to offend anyone or sound "preachy", just thought I'd put my two cents in. |

Rep Power: 168 | | | Wasn't saying that you sounded "preachy".... Just that you were speaking of something in a "matter of fact" tone.
It's an example of when people try to use something as an example of something else...
For example, when trying to explain re-incarnation, the argument usually goes "Well, it's when the soul leaves the body....".....
But you have to stop right there because your entire argument is flawed because it rests upon the existence of a soul, which there is no definitive proof or corroboration of.... It's only a theory, so anything built upon that foundation is a house of cards. First the existence of souls has to be established. Only then can we talk about re-incarnation in a logical sense.
The same is true with an abundance of the quantum physics stuff that is out there now. Take black holes for instance... You hear blurbs on the TV talking of them, news articles, etc. speaking of black holes and their existence in a matter of fact tone. The fact is, there is no conclusive substantiation, corroboration or proof of black holes and the hypothetical origins of them.
They are simply a theoretical construct and the fact is that the science used to determine that they "probably" exist is based on other theories. So the entire field of quantum physics is theoretical.
It's like trying to justify or offer an explanation of the existence of a horse with a horn and wings saying "It's the offspring of a Pegasus and Unicorn".

It's a great point actually, something I always thought about. If you can imagine God as the transcendent Archetype of unity-in-love-without-rivalry, the idea starts to make sense-- in the sense a mystery that we can begin to grasp can make any sense anyway!
The eternal now of the divine existence means perfect union and simplicity in unchangeable fullness of life, with no parts and with no relations before and after, no having been and no going to be. It can't be considered based on our temporal concerns, but represents complete fulfillment of relationship. |

I think this presents a paradox or an oxymoron of sorts.... or at the very least a dilemma....
I have often heard that the trials and tribulations of life are what makes life so grand, unique and worth living. The successes and failures, the loves and the heartbreaks, the good and the bad....
So if that is what makes heaven "Heaven" then heaven must be devoid of all the trials and tribulations that make it interesting and enjoyable to experience... so then heaven must truly be a living hell....
Unless heaven has all those trials and tribulations..... but then what would make it any different than "life"?
