I am wondering about something.
In most things i have seen in the US recentely, people call themselves either a democrat or a republican and this seems to inhibit their ability to make a decision on who is best for the job.
Numerous people have said oh i dont really thing Bush/Kerry is right for the job but i will vote for him anyway etc. Due to some feeling that they must be patriotic to the party they 'always' vote for etc. Regardless of the person at the top of the pile.
In the UK everybody i know tends to vote for who is right for the job and i dont know anyone that lables themselves as one political side or the other. Some still do - but very very few.
could this be the reason for how close the votes are now
It does seem a sumwhat strange situation that may not give a true representation of the public opinion.
Regards
Chris

teh puppets are different than 4 years ago, the state of the world is different than 4 years ago, economics are different than 4 years ago, people are different than 4 years ago...
how can someone say: "oh I'll vote the same as ever, 'cause I am a ********** >>fill in whatever you like<<"
anyone with some common sense should be able to see that bush is a dangerous person, even if you voted for him last time, even if you don't agree with all Kerry has to offer...

OK, can we stop with the Bush supporter bashing now I think we know how you feel about Bush and all us morons who plan on voting for him. I realize I am in a minority here on the DL being a Bush supporter, but quite frankly I am sick of hearing all the **** talk, mainly from people who aren't even US citizens! I'm sorry you think our President sucks, I'm sorry you don't want him re-elected, but I'll tell you one thing: John Kerry scares me a hell of a lot more than Bush does. I really didn't want to get into this because most of the people doing the bashing are people that I respect and consider friends here on the board, but enough is enough!
In answer to the question posed by chris_davis01:
I am registered Republican, but this generally doesn't have much to do with who I vote for, since I usually vote independent. In state and local elections, I usually vote about half and half, dem/rep.

Rep Power: 100 | | | Chirs, it means that when I registered to vote, I registered as a Republican. If I had registered Independant, I would not be able to vote in the primaries, and that is important to me.

I'm genuinely interested in why you think he is dangerous Krissy. I don't think he's great by any means, but I am interested in what American opinion is. I think if you look at his history as a senator you can see he tends to be more appeasing on issues that Bush might be seen as forcefull on. I think that is the European perception.
From what I have gathered so far, you either vote for a strong answer to the war on terrorism by voting for Bush, or someone who is more geared towards negotiating. Kerry sees terrorism as less of a real threat and more a matter that needs better policing. This could be seen as aweakness by US citizens as it might open the US up for more attacks.
Of course I can't see any al-Quaeda nutters bothering to fly all the way to the US when they can stay in the Middle and kill as many Americans as they want. |

I didn't say I thought he was dangerous, I said that he scared me more than Bush, because he is a FLAKE. He flipflops on everything. While I admit he has an awful lot of grandiose plans, I don't see any of them coming to fruition. (I could be wrong, but that's how I feel) I am not interested in paying higher taxes to support people who don't work (that are perfectly able to), or supporting all the babies they have. I am not interested in socialized healthcare, or "getting the same rates that the politicians in Washington get". I have little sympathy for people that cry, "There are no jobs!" Open the damn paper and FIND ONE! There are plenty, and I have NEVER had a problem finding one. I am not interested in paying 1/4 of my income for socialist security, which will be bankrupt by the time I can retire and use it. I think terrorism IS a problem that needs to be dealt with in a decisive manner. And I do not think that winning 3 Purple Hearts for one self-inflicted wound and 2 little boo-boos that didn't even require a bandaid in a war fought over 30 years ago is any indication of wheter or not one would make a good President. I realize it's not very "popular" now to support the President, but that is the beauty of my country; I can support whomever I choose for President, and there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it. <rant over> | “ | Of course I can't see any al-Quaeda nutters bothering to fly all the way to the US when they can stay in the Middle and kill as many Americans as they want. | ” | |
You do recall 9/11, right

Ah, yes. The ever popular "of course I'm right. no one could possibly disagree!" argument. Very reasonable. |
