I'm a big guy.
Most guys in gyms are smaller, especially the guys they stick me with.
I have a long history of getting Tee'd off on by quick little guys.
Usually I take a 3 strikes rule and then I do some Teeing off of my own.
Problem is, coaches know I'm prone to fire back, even if I outweigh the guy by 100 pounds. I mean, yeah the little guy probably can't knock me out, but if he's throwing with all his weight, it's still gonna hurt. So as soon as I look like I'm going to pound a guy, coaches are quick to step in.

In my school we have a standing rule.

You hit me hard, I hit you 10 times harder.

That's cool that they want to get some hard squabing in and fight, but if they're doing anything to cause injury to you, they are not respecting you nor training smart and lack control, something which isn't good in any style, thus you show them the error of their ways. Skip the 3 strike rule and go to straight a way, let them know if they're gonna go hardcore on you, you're gonna go triple hardcore on them.

I got in plenty of trouble with coaches even with my 3 strike rule.
i can imagine how much heck i'd catch from coaches if i skipped the strikes.

If they're teaching fighting, it's common sense you're gonna get hit or fire back if someone tries to tag you.

I'd tell them straight up, they strike at me, I strike at them, TS if they get tagged and hurt, it's their own fault for not putting up a good defense.

I'd draw a clear line and rule PRIOR to the "sparring", in that it's either light sparring, or FULL CONTACT, on both sides. I won't like to get injuries or have someone try to "beat me up", while I wouldn't be allowed to hit back because he's "so much weaker". If it's like that, then light contact, also on THEIR behalf. I hate it, when people like that go crazy and want to "show something", but you are not allowed to stop this show and have to take your loose teeth "like a man". Is there a camera ?

I wonder how they react when you ask after the first assault if you can retaliate now, or if they prefer lighter contact ?
