Rep Power: 13 | | | U.S. Martial Arts Hall of Fame???? There is a martial artist in our area that has been inducted into this U.S. Martial Arts Hall of Fame a number of times and I was just wanting to know if this was a legitimate foundation? Not sure how you can get inducted into any hall of fame a number of times but when you go to the web site he sure has! My cousin was looking at joining this club and I'm just checking the school out.

Not sure about that, but I was interested if this association was credible or not. Who gets inducted, what would be the requirements to be inducted? It doesn't say on the website. It just has a nomination form which to me means i can nominate my dog and she would get inducted....so far I'm not impressed.

Just curious, do you know what were the credentials in getting inducted? The reason i'm so interested is I know this guy from 10 years ago and he didn't know martial arts from his arss. now 10 years later he's a 5 degree master and has all these acalades. I've never stepped foot in his gym so i'm not bashing him as an instructor but i find it odd that he is some kind of hall of fame martial artist....

That's what I kind of thought just wanted to validate. The guy who is representing himself as a member of this HOF is a real piece of work when i knew him. Always looking for an easy way out and a get rich quick scheme. Not saying that he hasn't changed and isn't legit, because he might be, but I want to make sure my cousin doesn't get taken advantage. I don't like to bash anyone before getting as much info as i can. I have pretty much information on the guy from personal experience but this HOF was one of those things hanging out there that looks legit but could be a scam....

Rep Power: 143 | | | I can't say whether anyone on that list is good or bad, because I've never heard of any of them.
There's more than one Hall of Fame out there, but almost all of them seem to operate in the same way. It's either a "for friends only/good ol' boy" network, or you actually pay money to get listed. Usually both.
Plus your first statement was telling. The instructor in question has been inducted into that Hall of Fame "a number of times." What, did his Fame expire after a certain time? Did you ever see baseball players getting "reinducted" into that HOF?
I'd say the best advice to give your cousin is -- rather than outright badmouthing the guy because hey, he might have gotten better in 10 years, you never know -- is to tell him to check out more schools than that one, and to compare them all.

Haven't a clue. I believe that at least 3 people have to nominate you though.

I recognized one name on the list... James Stewart, the kickboxer. He's legit.

LOL........
Every time Todd (Carney, guy on our team from West Virginia) says his name (he trains with Stewart) he makes a note and says "not the actor"...

So it sounds like some legit people are on this? I'm still not convinced but again i haven't been to his school so i can't say anything. I think i'll just tell her to look around before committing.
