Rep Power: 0 | | | Need T-shirts or uniforms for students Does anyone know of a good site or place in the Chicago area to buy t-shirts or uniforms for my students? I'd prefer a yin yang with perhaps a dragon. I've been looking around but really not finding any thing that might last. Also, I'm not a fan of the all cotton unforms. Yes they breath pretty good but I know people don't want to iron them all the time. We all know they can get kind of stinky after a while too no matter how much you wash them. It's also better to get first hand knowlege than guessing on a site. |

I wish it was true.
More helpfully, they're cheesy, they're probably not the world's cheapest, but they turn out reasonable quality kit to match your design... http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/

Tip for removing that stinky smell from training gear....
I went through this a few years back (still do, but I know what to do now!) and my training clothes would start smelling like ammonia. I thought my cats were pissing on my dirty clothes!!! Any way, you could wash them and they would smell fine but as soon as you put them on and sweated in them for only a minute or two that smell would get reactivated and is horrible.
I washed multiple times, using hot, cold, all kinds of detergents and fabric softeners, etc... then I asked the guy that was the head chemist at the place where I worked. He said, "Oh, no problem...".
Fill the washing machine with COLD water. Add 1 oz. of Clorox. Start the washer to agitate and mix the Clorox ino the water. Add the clotes. Agitate some more (perhaps 2 minutes, but don't drain). Allow clothes to sit in solution for about 30 minutes to an hour. Run through the cycle. Then run through a complete cycle using regular detergent.
If your gear is white, this is a no brainer. If it's not....
Some things will not bleach. We train in spandex and rash guards. I have mostly black clothes and my fight shorts, bike shorts and black Underarmour rash guards have never faded due to the bleach. The WILL wear out quicker if you leave them in the Clorox/water solution too long, though... the elastic will break down. My jock straps and other things I have never worried about the color of anyway...lol.
I have a few sweat towels that I run through periodically and they are now lavender instead of royal blue, but I couldn't care less about the color of those, either. At least they don't smell bad.
If you have cotton gis or KF uniforms, they need to be white. If not, a colored cotton uniform will bleach out. Not so bad if you have black, as you can re-dye it in the wash. Most all other basic colors are the same. If you have a nylon KF uniform then it will not bleach.
Peace-
Cam

Rep Power: 155 | | Amonia is nothing! I do a lot of ashtanga - one of the theories is building up an internal heat to burn out any toxins. Given the way my t-shirts smell when they get wet again after the wash it works! I've got a smell they'd be interested in using as chemical warfare. I'm told it's down to eating meat and doing a purifying practice but I'm not about to give up my steak or my Mysore style practice.
Clorox? Ok, I don't wear a uniform, I train in coloured t-shirts. I don't want to imagine what Clorox is going to do to the italian cotton I paid £50.00 for in Harvey Nicks. I'm not even supposed to use washing powder on some of them. (Hey, if you trained with the people I do you'd be well turned out, too).
At the moment it's douse the underarms with vinegar, put a small amount of non-chlorine bleach powder in with them, and a few drops of pure tea tree oil in with the washing liquid and it seems to work. Soaking in tea tree oil works well too. The shirts seem to be coping, too.
Any other suggestions that wouldn't destroy my priceless collection more than welcome, though.
I can't believe I'm admitting to any of this

I can't believe you are training in $50 T shirts!!!
I buy cheap stuff to train in because it gets trashed regularly.

Rep Power: 0 | | | Thanks everyone. I would love to get some uniforms that are like one I got a long time ago but I can't find them anymore. I think they were called Bear Brand. They used velcro instead of the ties and they were a mix of cotten and synthetic. Never wrinkled and you could take a good hold for a grab and never tear. I was thinking of just doing t-shirts, especially for the summer but hey would have to be heavy weight enough to be okay with grabs and holds. |

I thought of that but I'd like to stay at least somwhat traditional.
I think I might be in luck. My wife says that if I can find a pattern she might be able to make some. That would be cool because then I can have the black and green colors I want. |

Don't know about the uniforms. But I can draw a design for you if you'd like. Just did a dragon with a ying yang symbol for a friend as tattoo design.
You could then easyly look on the internet for a company to print them on t-shirts.
