One of the other locations of my school has an advanced level instructor that used to be a pro-football player. (Quinn Early) I read an article by Jane Hallander with him where he discussed how his tai chi helped improve his football game and how he used tai chi moves in football. It was really interesting.

(off topic, there is a great youtube of Mr. Early doing double chain whips out there.)

Dang! I've also thought the same and told my football loving son he should have stayed in class. Some great principles to use in football, especially if you are on the line.

Formosa Neijia is on a distinguished road
So taiji is useful as long as it improves one's football or wrestling? Good grief.

One of the problems with the "bad teachers" is the attitude of many people. Too much in a hurry, looking for short cuts and the worse part is picking only parts of the art. The art should be approached as a whole not just parts, that's why so many people don't get it or don't develop the skills the art offers.
One thing that few people talk about is the mind body and the whole how everything around you works. The basics the art comes from need to be absorbed. This is one of those arts that is life changing in mind body and spirit. In simple terms it's like a boxer hitting a bag but never learning to block, it's just not going to make a good boxer.

Excellent post.
I might add that a language barrier can sometimes really affect the transfer of knowledge.

Oh don't be silly. No one said that. We are just talking about interesting applications in other sports. That is the nature of this particular thread topic. Don't go making over generalized statements no one is saying.

Take Care,
