Rep Power: 100 | | | big snake in a bottle I can recall very well one day in Xi'an (I remember it because the same day I nabbed some dude trying to pick my then-girlfriend's pocket) when I 'explored' in a traditional chinese herbalists shop. There was one big-ol' bottle with a ginseng root and a rather large snake in it. Of course, I thought that was the coolest thing ever, so I went over to gawk at it. The proprietor saw the waiguoren eyeing the bottle and thought it would be fun to see if he would actually take a taste of it. Seeing as I was at that most reasonable stage of my life when I would have sucked a rusty nail through my nostril if you dared me to, I readily accepted the offer. I can't recall the taste so much, but I remember that shortly after I got a wicked nose-bleed. Too much chi in my system the fella said. |

Rep Power: 100 | | | If i'm not mistaken I think that is a mixture to treat impotency. Funny that it would make your nose bleed.

Actually, I think the most popular "wine" is mixed with Tiger (or Seal) penis rather than a Snake. The "Snake Wine" is commonly externally for brusies, and other injuries that doesn't involve open wound. If taking enternally (drinking it) - I think it's suppose to boost up your energy.
The cause of the bleeding could be the ginseng. I'm assuming it was probably a Red ginseng - since it is considered a "Hot" herb. |

Rep Power: 54 | | | i tried the tiger bone wine, wow! best one was when my sifu saw a coiled barbed thing in the case, "whats that?" he asked. "tigah peenis, good for pick up women" he said with a lifting gesture, "you know, pick up!" we declined on that one. doubt the ginseng would do that though, more likely the snake id guess, ill look it up later. what kind of snake? any idea?

Rep Power: 54 | | | nah, id go straight for the tiger if i did though! on the snake, if mem serves me correctly, snakes shed skin, so they are used for skin ailments; they are flexible, so joint problems are addressed with them; they are venomous, so poisonings can be treated with them; and because of the way that they move, "wind" conditions can be treated with snake. we dont use animal medicinals at our acupuncture school so i may be a little off on those.

Rep Power: 54 | | blows my mind! the cross applications to my ma are astounding, and the things i see daily in the clinic are, well, if i start talking about them, most people think im either deluded or insane! lots of work though. there are huge differences in the abilities of acupucturists world-wide these days, in regards to healing as well as teaching, so it really pays to search around. our school is full on old school in the taoist tradition, the shr-fu was raised in one of the largest medical monastaries in china. during the cultural revolution, the govt burned the temple and killed her master. she (as an adult already) fled the country with a few other disciples and around 5 tons of manuscripts, eventually making her way to hawaii where she opened a school in 1970. sounds like something out of the shaw bros, eh?

Rep Power: 24 | | | I was in Thailand a two weeks ago, and we had a great tourguide the first week, he lived in Switzerland for 7 years, so he could compare it to Thailand, and he kept telling us anecdotes. One was about when he was six years old, and was visiting his grandparents in their small village. He and some other kids spotted a king cobra. They called the adults, who started playing with the cobra, teasing it with a stick and chasing it around. This also meant they were legally obliged to kill it, because a cobra that was bothered remembers and returns, so it could be dangerous to small children. After they killed it, it was cooked and served with rice, but only to men, because it is used to treat impotence or increase potence, so women don't need it. The guide was obviously to young to worry about that, but he said he had never eaten as much, that it was great meat and that it really got his blood flowing, but he didn't mention nosebleed, just that he was warmer and felt his pulse much more than normal. He also told us that a foreigner probably wouldn't be offered any, because the Thais prefer to eat the best things themselves.
