Rep Power: 41 | | | You know this Jow stuff actually worked! Ok, I'll be honest here, I don't put much faith in non-western medicine. Who knows, maybe it's my family history, maybe it's my harsh analytical mind, maybe I'm just a dull guy. Who knows, the point is I'm not one to buy into stuff that doesn't come from Walgreens or CVS
Well I got hurt, it was a strange sort of tendon injury in my right calf. Happened...of all things.. when I was tiling the back porch. Don't ask me how, it's a very long and very stupid story. Well back to the injury..
I was pissed, I had just switched to a new, closer No Gi BJJ gym and I wanted to use my skills (meager ones at that). Well my guard game (and damn near everything else) hurt. It's amazing how much you use your lower legs, especially in Jiu-Jitsu.
So, I started taking Advil, copious amounts of Advil. It had a minor effect, but to be honest I was getting concerned at how much I had to take to get an effect. It was time for a change but frankly I didn't really know what.
I'd had this bottle of jow from Plummy for awhile and didn't really know what to make of it. It seemed to work ok on bruises, but I mean really, we can all just wait out most bruises. So I emailed Plummy and told him about my plight.
He said to soak some Jow into gauze and wrap it on my busted up Calf for 30 minutes twice a day. You want honesty? My first thought was.. geez I'm gonna have a stinky leg! But I figured what the heck, I've got the stuff here I'll head over to CVS and get some gauze, maybe an ace bandage and make it happen.
You know what happened? Well after 3 days it felt better, I mean much better. After days 4 and 5 it was amazing, I'd say 80% healed. Remarkable!
Now the doubters are saying that I took time off right? No training.. Hahah those don't know hazmat, I trained BJJ 3 times this week, and 3 days of explosive weight training, to top it off there was a conditioning session and a Yoga Session.
End result? You've made a believer out of me, I can't imagine some raisin scented herbs in a little bottle would have made me feel so much better.
Thanks Plummy, your magic herbs have made my day..heck my week!

Rep Power: 41 | | | I used two different ones, only because plummy sent me some new stuff.
First 3 days -> Regular Plumdragon Jow
Last 2-3 days -> JKD Plumdragon Jow
Honestly, the JKD version seems much stronger, I'd recommend it in the future.

Rep Power: 61 | | | Glad to hear your feeling better, and thanks for the positive review! =)
The JKD jow is definitely a stronger recipe; I get loads of positive response about that recipe. The bruise liniment is a pretty basic recipe and is best for bruises and minor injuries, so Im not surprised the JKD jow did better for you.
Again, glad to hear your back at it! Makes it all worth it for me... =) |

Rep Power: 5 | | | Yeah I definitely like the JKD jow for injuries. My cousin was playing some b-ball a couple of months ago and heard a pop in the back of his knee. He fell to the ground was shaking and could not even walk. I thought he broke his leg by the amount of pain he was in. I gave him san huang san for swelling the first night and jkd jow to rub in a few times a day. he was up and around in no time. I was like WOW!
Personally, I have found that JKD is really good for deep bone on bone bruises from no gear sparring too. |

Rep Power: 41 | | | I keep telling plummy he needs to rebrand everything with "crazy western names" and sell it to the mma crowd.
I have never heard of him san huang san, but perhaps I'll get some for the future.

Cam (Lugaldamhara) and his guys use my jow and Im trying to market it to other MMA gyms but it can be hard to break into them--they dont seem to like Eastern stuff. =)
Oh BTW, I do have a product coming out soon called Bruise Juice, which if I recall, is per your naming recommendation Haz. Its a more modern, tweaked recipe and it is serious stuff. | “ | Originally

Check it out: San Huang San
Read the reviews on it too. This stuff is really perfect if you can apply it right at the very beginning of bad injuries. Youll never use ice again (you shouldnt be using ice anyway). |

Rep Power: 41 | | | Yes, you see, that's the ticket.
Heck I'd almost be willing to put my money where my mouth is... I'm betting that if you threw up a sister site, loaded it with MMA marketing, and called your stuff Bruise Juice or Sprain Sauce, whatever, and modernized the packaging... Well, with a little viral marketing you'd do well.
I love business.

Rep Power: 150 | | | You sell San Huang San? I'm gonna have to see about ordering some. Read about it in "Tooth From the Tiger's Mouth" and wanted to try it ever since.
I'm a believer in dit da jow although a little knowledge of how, where & when to apply it goes a long way. "Oh, just rub it in" is fine for the occasional bruise but the bigger stuff calls for a little more specialization.
I sprained the heck out of my ankle (again) a few weeks ago. One of my kung fu sisters massaged it with jow, showed me a pressure point on the calf to relax the lower leg muscles, and I was up and training again less than 48 hours later. Did warm-water soaks for an entire week though along with more jow, just to make sure -- I tend to roll over my ankles quite a lot.

You need to start some stability training, do you have access to a BOSU? Or perhaps a balance disc?
In the meantime you could consider some single leg dumbbell exercises like single leg rows... basically anything that forces you to balance under small/moderate loads.
Ever since I incorporated more of that type of training into my plan I stopped having ankle or lower leg problems.

Rep Power: 150 | | | There's a balance half-ball thing at the school that ppl use to practice golden chicken stance on ... I don't use it very much but should.
Haven't tried single-leg rows. Got a link to a site with pics/instructions? There's a rack of dumbbells I can use.

I try to manufacture and/or stock anything useful for martial arts/sports injuries or training that comes from an herbal source. San huang san, dit da wan, tonics, plasters and soaks, royal jelly, flexibility stuff, yunnan baiyao, well over 100 raw herbs, etc etc etc. Its not just jow. Thats just kind of the bread and butter, but the PlumDragon Herbs idea is all about helping the martial artist be at the top of their game, from a natural, healthy, herbal standpoint. | “ | Originally

Oh yea, application techniques are a big piece of it and Im surprised how much people can learn even from just watching how I apply it to myself. And of course, rubbing it in isnt always the preferred method of application. Making a makshift plaster like I had hazmat do can be more effective than rubbing/massaging it in under certain circumstances.

Rep Power: 100 | | | For the JKD folks you need to call it "Bruce Juice".
For the MMA ones 2B-ON: "if you are serious about your MMA comp, you want 2 B on juice !". And you don't call it a bottle, it's a "cycle". Tatooed men with a wicked beard on the package preferred.

Rep Power: 150 | | | Yeah, I remember reading some book online theorizing that Bruce was on 'roids. It laid out a pretty good case for it.
