Should I have not pumped 2 oz of aloe gel into the wound? Hmm...I've always done my own self healing. Broken finger? splint it! Broken nose? Set it and forget it! But, this burn thing could be a potentially dangerous situation. Damn you, WuSung; you and your hard head! Always bursting stuff and picking things...ugh.

Hey, Dale, thanks for the info on the TCM. When I hit up the accupuncturist, I will check into that, too.

Sorry for all the posts, but I didnt wanna leave it till I replied to all you guys. Thanks for the help! You too, MH. Beer is, of course, the BEST medicene.

Was it bottled gel or straight from an aloe leaf? The bottled gel is best for sunburns & first-degree burns, it's low-grade stuff. The fresh goo from the leaf will have the most oomph. Aloe eases burning & later, itching while the burn heals, they use it in hospital burn units now.

Keep a close eye on it and I'd still see a doctor just in case.

The gel was bottled, Im afraid. I went to the doc today, got some antibiotics. He also said "You seriously swabbed it out with a q-tip and pumped it full of bottled aloe?" And there was that look/tone of disdain Ive come across alot b/c of my stupidity.

I'm glad I'm back - some of the post crack me up. And I'm not going to say which one but the moxa? on burns?

Why you want to do that for?

I use the Lu Fu mountaint 100 herb/grass oil by those damn doaist. My wife accidentally put her hand on the RINGS of the stove. I pour the thing on - no blister...

BUT you have to do it fast...so if you can come over quickly, I got a ton of this crap for you.

Dale - that is one big friggin banner. You should give him the iron palm jow so next time - he wouldn't feel it...

Oh about infection - 90% of the time or more - it wouldn't happen unless you wipe your butt with it or you put your palsm in really dirty places...

neosporin would do the trick - but bursting it - what's wrong with you - are you brave or are you stupid?

Next time you will be wiser...

Maybe I need to be more clear:

I *never* said to use moxibustion on a burn! Some people use burn cream on their patients after performing direct moxibustion. I advised original poster to talk to an acupuncturist in their area about what they use on their patients as a burn cream after performing direct moxibustion. Does that make sense?

Allan! Nice to see you back!

My acupuncturist didn't ever use burn cream after direct moxibustion -- she did say "quit looking!" a lot during the process and I wish I hadn't. But I never had more than a red mark over each spot that went away in a day.

Direct Moxa is not done much in this nation as its called scarring moxa and will leave some nasty little areas of burned dermal material.

I have had it done on Stomach 36 as well as Qihai.

Way old school, but then the person who did it was family trained.

LOL...you obviously do not know me. I never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but bursting seemed like the best--and most appealing thing to do at the time.

Oh, and next time, buddy, I'll bust it, too. It's like coming across those "bubble-sheets" people use to pack things with...I cant resist. Thanks for the info, though, cheers!

LOL. The wound is completely healed, now. It is rather ugly, though. I lucked out that it didnt get infected. True, a bonehead move to bust it, but boneheads will do what boneheads will do. As for the heroic fight story, I've just been telling people I got it from saving your butt from that midget you picked a fight with.

Yeah it can be fun - I slammed a car door into one of my fingers - the nail tuned black with blood blister and throbed for a day so had to heat up a pin and let melt through the nail and then squeeze the blood out. Because the hole was a clean opening - had to keep some iodine and wrapped up.

Next time - try some tabasco on it after you pop it. I heard it does wonders...

That is what all the old school Chinese doctors use.

My favorite is Zihua Burn Ointment which I purchased in Beijing, China (1997) after it was recommended to me by my mentors. I have found it to be a truly amazing product for burns as the pain is "nearly instantly" gone after applying it--including a severe burn that I received when using a cutting torch. My wife keeps a tube in the kitchen for emergencies and absolutely swears by it for everything from sunburn to scalds. As I am now down to my last tube, I have been hunting for more, unfortunately, however, I have never seen it for sale in the U.S.

About five years ago, a patient filed charges with the state acupuncture board against a former classmate of mine for burning her with moxa. Since then, most acupuncturists where I live no longer do direct moxibustion other than "threads" on the general public.

Yeah that sounds really old school!

I think the most extreme thing I've seen (and it probably isn't much) is seeing old blood brought to the surface with a metal scraper. The tiny blood vessels just under the skin get distressed, and it's done over a wide area, so it looks hideous when complete.

Yeah that is called Gua Sha technique and you can use a Chinese soup spoon or any blunt edged object to move blood and qi in areas.
