Good to hear from you.
Here is the Lau Family recipe. Use it by soaking your forearm in a big jar and keep the arm inside for approximately 7 minutes. After that, just rub or massage the Dit Dar* in. I have used this for years, for conditioning. I hardly get any bruises, but when I do get a bruise it heals very very quickly.
FYI, always leave the herbs in the jow.

If you have a background in TCM why are you asking for different recepies, you should know what types of herbs to use to make the different "jows". Most recepies are handed down from family to family so most arts have their own family recepies. Has your teacher passed on to you his recepies? please don't get me wrong, I'm just asking cause you said you had a background in TCM (are you a Dr. of TCM? or just read books) My Sifu happens to be a Dr. of Traditional Chinese Medicine and he holds "Healing Seminars" for all his disciples. This is when he shares the recepies for jow, plaster, balms and etc. He also teaches us "Bone Setting" this way a Sifu should be able to heal a student when they get hurt.
Peace

All of those herbs are either currently up on our site, or we carry them but havent listed them yet, with 2 exceptions: Yuan Tong (Is this supposed to be Yuan Zhi Tong?), and luodieda, I dont know what this is referring to either. If time permits, Ill look more into it and see if I cant find anything.
Im also really low on Xi Xin and just sold out of Wu Yao, so need to order more. Im actually putting in a big restocking order tomorrow (May 29th). If you want me to order stuff for you, let me know, as I probably wont order the Yuan Zhi or Wu Yao if not--If you want to purchase from Dale, thats fine too! PD or Dale, do you have these herbs in stock? I would like to try this jow.

I believe that Yuan Zhi Tong is prepared Yuan Tong, since "Zhi" generally means "prepared".
Before placing my order though, with you or Dale, I want to find out what luodieda is. So, please see what you can find out. |

Often times Zhi is used to denote cooking, but is not always the case, as in for example Zhi Zi, Bai Zhi, or here with Yuan Zhi Tong. Yuan Zhi is the name that Im aware of, but Ive also seen it Yuan Zhi Tong.
Ive spent some time and looked over some other herbs that have similar names. There are a couple other it might be, but given the properties and uses of Luo Shi Teng, Id concur with Dale that this is likely the herb in question...I dont have it but Im going to buy some today. I probably will not purchase the Yuan Zhi though... | “ | Originally

Cheapest Vodka you can find works great. Of course, rice wine is more traditional, but Vodka is generally cleaner (IMO) and usually less money. Barring minor details, ethanol is ethanol, and what you are buying at the store is primarily ethanol and water, especially if you buy anything thats been distilled. |

Rep Power: 54 | | | I have used Everclear and vodka in the past, the former is illegal here though.
The reason i ask is that i may have access to some scientific grade ethanol (not denatured), which i imagine will work well for my next batch...
Any caveats?

As long as its not denatured, youre good to go. Just *make sure* there are no additives.
I actually buy most of my alcohol from a microbrewery that sells pharmaceutical grade organic spirits and I love it, works very well and has a fantastic scent. It comes as 95% alcohol and I cut it down to the proper levels with Spring Water. I assume you will be getting either 95% or 97.5% (195 proof) alcohol, which is common in lab settings. Cut it with something like Spring Water--opinions and preferences vary with application, but anything between 30-50% alcohol will work just fine.
