Sorry to interrupt this gun discussion, but I always like mention it is legal for the blind to hunt with a laser sight in Michigan and Texas.

My Dear Friends,

As an alternative to some of the other suggestions I would recommend pure silicone oil. It is readily available in a spray at any hardware store, protects metal remarkably well, and is fairly cheap. I have been using it on my katana and broadswords for years to no ill effect. It does not 'goop' up at all.
