My Dear Friends,
I carry an Emerson Combat Karambit every day without fail. I prefer it to practically every other kind of fighting blade.
I would suggest
The Karambit Demo as a good resource for learning exactly how this blade style is best utilized. It admittedly is very much a
corto (close range) weapon, but flipping to extended grip will permit longer ranges to be engaged in a pinch.
As far as production karambits, I prefer the Emerson versions. An identical trainer with a blunt blade is also available, and I highly recommend it to prevent blood loss while navigating the learning curve.
Other quality production karambits include the now-discontinued Spyderco Warren Thomas folding karambit, the Derespina Model 10 fixed blade karambit, and 5.11 folding karambits, as well as a ridiculous number of custom blades from makers like James Coogler (CNC Bladewerkz) and the aforementioned Derespina.
