George Dillman

There's a new story entry added:

George Dillman

American karate instructor. Dillman begane Okinawan kempo in 1960 with Robert Tieu at Ft. Knowx, KY., and has received his black belt in this style from Charles Cant. Dillman has also studied isshinryu with Harry Smith, shorin-ryu with Jame Coffman, and Chinese systems with Daniel Pai. In 1973 Dillman was named one of the country's top kata competitors by Official Karate Magazine.

Dillman was featured in "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" in 1975 for a feat that made worldwide wire service coverage. He broke more than 1,000 pounds of ice for a charity function.

My opinion on Mr Dillman

George Dillman.... How to sum up my opinion of him...? I'm sure I could do the same thing as the majority and flame him. A lot of his stuff isn't so practical and some things he has said is questionable. I'm not going to stick up for him either. All I can say is that he has been in martial art circles for some time, and if he kept away from claiming he could perform a no touch KO, I'm sure his reputation would not have suffered as much damage as it has.

I guess it doesn't really matter if it has been deleted or not. In 1975 Dillman broke 1000 pounds of ice. But I have a question, especially since I've only ever performed one break. Wouldn't the temperature in that room make the ice more brittle and easier to break? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

depends on the thickness of the ice

and how deeply frozen it is

also its easy to put two blocks of ice together

then freeze a layer of water over both of them

so it looks like one block
