Chen style Tai Chi

So who here's a Chen stylist?

Just been doing some reading up as I found a local Chen school that hopefully I'll be starting at on Monday.

I've done some Practical Chen

I've done some Practical Chen under the Joseph Chen Zhong hua line. But that was a ways back now. I did learn a couple of handy body tricks that I've held on to from it.

So went along last night.

So went along last night. Really liked it.

Only made one faux pas by calling it Yang style to the instructor :D I noticed he kept saying Chen Family whenever possible after that.

The only other Chinese martial art I've been involved with has been Wing Chun so last nights session was a real eye opener. It put a lot of disparate thoughts & knowledge into a broader perspective. Very interesting stuff, I'm going to go again on Thursday, proper looking forward to it :D

Nice!!! I enjoyed Chen while

Nice!!! I enjoyed Chen while I practiced it, but it ultimately wasn't for me at this point in my training life. You'll find taiji helps to tie a lot of things up that we may not even notice as loose. Then on top of that, Chen is particularly violent IMO, which makes it quite lovely to play with & jerk people around.

Make sure to stretch your joints out really well once you start getting into playing applications & push hands. Tons of locks, manipulations, take downs & throws in taiji and Chen is GOOD for them all.
