What is an AVATAR?

An avatar is a personalized graphic image that represents a user. It is displayed above your name in your posts.
It can be an actual picture of yourself, but most often an image reflecting your alter-ego.

How do I change my avatar?

After logging in, you will see your profile picture in the top right corner and beside it will be your username.
To the right of your user name click on the down arrow and select My Settings

Under Your Options click on Profile and then in the left side navigation click on "Change Avatar".

How do I select a Pre-Installed Avatar?

Follow the instructions above on how to change your avatar and on the Change Avatar page scroll down to the Pre-Installed Avatar section.

Select a category from the drop down and when you find the avatar you would like to use select the radio input button (usually a circle) and scroll down and click Save Changes

How can I upload my own avatar?

You must have at least 50 posts to be able to upload your own avatar.

Follow the instructions above on how to change your avatar and on the Change Avatar page scroll down to the Pre-Installed Avatar section.

At the top of this page you will see your restrictions on file types and sizes that will be allowed for your avatar.

Click on the Choose File button and navigate to the image you would like to use for your avatar, then scroll down and click Save Changes

How can I use an avatar I already have?

Follow the instructions above on how to change your avatar and on the Change Avatar page scroll down to the Pre-Installed Avatar section.

Look for the box titled "Enter a URL to an online avatar image". Enter the full URL for your avatar here, scroll down and click Save Changes

How can I use my Gravatar (new!) ?

Gravatar will let you set your Avatar for many sites and when you change your Gravatar it will also be updated on the sites you choose.

First, you must sign up for Gravatar (http://en.gravatar.com/) and activate your account.

After activiating your Gravatar account you will simply enter your Gravatar email address on the Change Avatar page of your profile and click Save Changes.

since the dawn of the era of MMA

we have heard that MMA came about due to deficiencies in Traditional Martial Arts (TMAs)

that in real terms traditional trained fighters just dont cut it against fighters

who have taken a modern approach to training and studied martials art from the point of view of effectiveness

as opposed to tradition

and yet to this day MMA proponents still have not matched the shear machismo of TMAs

Conserving Energy

I'm meeting more people who're into the idea of conserving their energy and I'm curious how well the approach works. The theory is that it's better to do one hour of good work using full energy and then rest than it is to stumble through six hours exhausted.

I recently did a week's fairly intense full time training (acrobatics not MA) and was intrigued to see people applying the approach there - doing one or two sessions a day rather than training continuously but going maybe a level higher for the sessions they did do. I've always thought of it as the preserve of professionals and competition - if you're competing or getting paid then it matters that you're at your best obviously. I'm not planning to give up my "don't pace yourself, train flat out, stumble about with ridiculously low blood sugar, go way past the point of diminishing returns" approach because life and work are sure to force a rest on me and after it more will have sunk in but I'm curious what results others are getting with the "new style" approach to traditional training.
