Review by Thomas Stoeppler aka Necronos

Here we have an excellent book by Dr Yang, Jwing-Ming. It discusses the classic Yang Style long form and shows a few possible martial applications derived from each move.
Dr Yang gives examples of different types of applications for each move - be it striking cavities, qin-na, or basic resonses. The pictures in the book are fairly large so you can see what is going on and the descriptions are clear and easily understandable.

A set of Push-hands techniques is also included along with some interesting training methods for force and coordination. The application of fa-jin is also discussed, in a very practical manner and also easy to understand.

For everyone who practices Taiji, this book is excellent for widening the spectrum of possible applications - and to get a little more creative in the art.

Cons:

I have mixed feelings on books by Dr Yang, Jwing-Ming...

Same with this one.
It's an exellent book, very detailed, very much good and usefull information.
If you want to know a little bit more about the fighting applications of TaiJiChuan, get it!

But buyers beware!!!
Dr Yang, Jwing-Ming will make references...
A LOT of references...
To his other books and videos.
And you *will* have the feeling that you will actually *need* the other stuff as well.

This book *needs* "Tai Chi Theory & Martial Power", "Taijiquan, Classical Yang Style: The Complete Form and Qigong", "Taijiquan Theory of Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming: The Root of Taijiquan", "Taiji Chin Na: The Seizing Art of Taijiquan" which will lead you to "Qigong Meditation: Embryonic Breathing" and "Qigong, The Secret of Youth"...

And that are only the books that pop into my mind...
Most come with videos as well....

So: great stuff, really, but make sure you've got enough cash to buy the complete series....

Interesting discussion on different jings, but doesnt really go into enough detail as to how to apply them etc. Would be much MUCH more useful if it did.

YJM should lose the idea of filling a 1/3 of the book with translation issues and prologue and put more impact into them!
