Pro- This book contains plenty of discussion on history, philosophy, mechanics, and technique. When I read through I felt like I had a good understanding of what the author teaches, and what to expect from Eagle Claw advocates. Plenty of well photographed pictures help illustrate all of the training and application drills throughout the book.
Con- As I read the text I began to wonder whether this was more of a Wushu Eagle Claw or legit Eagle Claw. It never became apparent, and some of it seems more flash oriented while others more realistic oriented.
Overall I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about Eagle Claw Kung Fu. There is a lot of good information one could use to supplement their own training.

Ultimate giude to Eagle Claw?
Well..
That is one thing this book is most certainly NOT!!!
Thing is...
It doesn't really suck either!
GrandMaster LEung Shum is one of the few "reall" GrandMaster Eagle Claw has and no matter what this book is, his skills are good.
It's just such a limited overview of a style that is so rich that you really do not get the "taste" of it with this book.
Still, it gives you a couple of small pieces of the style and it does that quite well.
Eagle Claw has it's "wushu"-ness, especially the lineage that Shum represents, but the book also shows some of the applications from the 108 Eagle Claw locking techniques.
In a way that might be open to questioning of course, since it are all stand alone applications shown, no follow ups, no combat situations etc. etc.
So...
Bad book?
No way, just a beginning to get to know Eagle Claw.
No more, no less....

Ok, taking on board chiefs comments - I guess the book perhaps isnt the greatest for a 'teach me how to fight like an eagle' type book.
However, on a very good point - it does raise awareness of eagle claw, and not that pants wushu type stuff!!
Besides, Leung Shum is a top bloke, and I think portrays a much better view of eagle claw than that lilly lau dolly-bird.
