I bought this book when I first started kickboxing. It answered a lot of questions that I had, and I learned a whole lot from it.
The book teaches you basic kickboxing strikes, and does it well. Also in the book is a bunch of drills and tips for cardio kickboxing. A lot of small, technical things are covered in the description for each strike, and decent pictures help that along as well.
The workouts detailed in the book are great for beginners and intermediates, and so is the mental training side.
Self-defense is covered pretty well in the book, with an emphasis on kickboxing skills. Several ground positions are shown(guard, mount, etc.) with an explanation on how to use each effectively.
Very relaxed writing style, with plently of humerous sayings included. You can't get mad at this book.
And, to finish the book off, there is a very nice collection of martial arts, included with details and notes on them all, and their influence on kickboxing. There is also mention of the fight sports, K-1, UFC, and PRIDE FC with a little backing on them all.
The downside is that, for the training aspect, it focuses very much on the trainee being in a K-1 fight, or something similar to that. The book seems to forget it's title and realize that most who buy it are amateurs or those who know nothing about the sport. The book itself loses a lot of value after a fighter gains more and more experience, but the workouts leading up to the fight is a great one.
All in all a very good book with a solid foundation. Well worth the money, and later, the sweat!
