Pros: Real-life MA masters in an action movie, rather than stuck in a documentary
Cons:

Two of the highlights of this classic-fu film are seeing the late Lee Koon Hung in action, and seeing karate done well -- a rarity in any film market, including the Hong Kong genre.
Karate \"masters\" in most Hong Kong films -- especially during the Shaw Bros. era -- are stereotypical sneering, evil types who, if you see any karate done at all, move as stiffly as Frankenstein\'s monster. Here, the karate guy has the sneering evil thing down, but his moves are fast and flowing yet distinct from the other MA styles featured.
The film itself has your typical medieval-China costuming and sets, however several real-life masters are thrown into them. This is where the predictable plot takes a back-seat to martial arts politics. In every other classic-fu movie I\'ve seen, if more than 5 good guys are traveling together in a group, 3 of them will be dead within about 10 minutes. Sometimes from attackers; sometimes from fighting one another. Here, none of the real-life masters fight each other; their highlights are staged against actors. This doesn\'t necessarily diminish the quality of the fight choreography, but if you rent the DVD expecting to see a Battle Royale between seven MA greats, you\'ll be disappointed.
Shadow of the Tiger is a repackaged edition and was originally called \"Duel of the 7 Tigers.\" The film has been cleaned up well, so there\'s no washed-out images, jump cuts or shaky sound. Overall, an entertaining, if not groundbreaking, flick.
