Verry detailed book on many of the aspects of kung fu. Although i wouldnt recomend doing the iron hand training in it (without a skilled teacher you could hurt yourself), and it has a couple facts that have no proof at all it is still a good book.A nice basic set is included for beginners.

I love this book...
it's one of my first books on Shaolin Kung Fu and every once in a while I go back to it and learn some new stuff from it.
It's not spectacular with great forms, it's not loaded with very deep insights either.
Or is it???
When you read it as a beginner, you'll get a lot of information on the basics of Shaolin Kung Fu (best parts: "how to find a good teacher" and "how to be a good student")
But as an intermediate or experienced MA-ist you will time after time find deeper insights in the world of Shaolin Kung Fu.
It's a book that you will read over and over again and makes you think: "ahhhhhh.... That's what SiFu's trying to teach me!!"

By far, the Art of Shaolin Kung Fu is one of my favorite books. The author is very detailed in his descriptions and provides the novice-to-intermediate martial artist with an excellent reference. His linking pattern set and various combat and defense applications alone make this book a must-have. This is one book that you'll find yourself returning to over and over again as you progress in your martial arts training.

This book is used to get individuals started on the track of sil lum kung fu.
I like the line drawings, however some of the chi gung chapters would need to be taught by an instructor.
Once you read this book you will want to look into specialized books.

It gave me the bigger picture and background on kung fu. I got to see the names of different moves. Not a book to use to learn on your own but good to read for someone who is just starting out in chinese martial arts.

This is a great all around book for beginners, but will also give the seasoned veteran much to absorb. I have found myself referring back to it time and again.
The first few chapters alone are filled with many explanations of Chinese terms, historical figures and locations that all martial artist should know.
