Let it be known that I feel that the best movies that are being made right now are being made overseas...esp. horror movies. Japan has been putting out great horror movies for a while now(the eye, infection, Ringu, etc) and possibly at the top of the list is The Audtion. The Audtion is can best be described as "sleeping in seattle" gone bad. real bad. The story is about a widower who takes an offer to bascilly audtion girls in hope that he may find a wife. The women who he takes an intrest in is not what she appears(puttting it way mildly). The genius of this movie is in the build up. It plods along...like a steam roller running down a hill w/ it's emergency brake on.....untill the last 20 mins when all the events come to a head. You don't see such a build up in films these day. The movie is very slow...and it is absoulty essential. The story starts as a mystery then simply explodes in the end into a full blown horror film which is almost unwatchable due to the fact that you build up such a fondess for the main charatcer.
I cant recomned this enough for horror fans or simply those looking for something fresh...
be warned...not for those w/ short attention spans...
recomended!!!
